Ms Kato Van Broeckhoven is a Fellow (Non-Resident) at the Centre for Policy Research (UNU-CPR) and Senior Researcher for the Managing Exits from Armed Conflict (MEAC) project, which was launched at UNU-CPR and is now administered by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR).
Her research focuses on conflict prevention and resolution, disarmament, demobilization, disengagement, and reintegration. She was previously a Senior Project Manager and Research Officer at UNU-CPR, where she worked on children and extreme violence, and co-edited Cradled by Conflict: Child Involvement with Armed Groups in Contemporary Conflict with Dr Siobhan O’Neil.
Prior to joining UNU-CPR, Ms Van Broeckhoven worked on city-level programming aimed at preventing recruitment by groups labelled violent extremist. She also worked as a consultant for the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the World Bank’s Global Knowledge Partnership on Migration and Development, and Columbia University’s Global Policy Initiative. Ms Van Broeckhoven is currently a PhD candidate at the Department of Conflict and Development Studies at Ghent University.
