    Biographical Statement

    Dr Marina Caparini is a Senior Researcher and leads the project, ‘Improving Multilateral Approaches to Countering Organized Crime in Conflict-Affected States: Central African Republic and Mali.’

    Dr Caparini is a political scientist whose research has focused on governance, institutional reform, peacebuilding, and the nexus between security and development. She has published on diverse aspects of security and justice governance in post-conflict and post-authoritarian contexts, including police development, intelligence oversight, civil-military relations, and the regulation of private military and security companies. Her recent work has focused on peace operations and transnational organized crime.

    Dr Caparini was formerly Director of the Governance & Society Programme at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). She has also held senior positions at the Norwegian Institute for International Affairs (NUPI), the International Centre for Transitional Justice (ICTJ), and the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF), and provided expert analysis, policy support, and training to international and regional organizations including the United Nations, European Union, Council of Europe, African Union, NATO, and the Commonwealth.
