Thomas Dörfler is a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)-UNU Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the UNU Centre for Policy Research. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Bamberg, Germany, and a Master’s Degree from Leiden University, The Netherlands. In his doctoral dissertation, he examined how the delegation of implementation decisions to sanctions committees in the UN Security Council affects the behavior of UN member states and the decisions taken.
Besides his strong interest in the area of UN sanctions policy, his current focus at UNU-CPR is on multilateral and inter-institutional cooperation in the fight against violent extremism. This includes the financing of terrorism through illicit trafficking in cultural property and exploitation of natural resources.
