David Passarelli is United Nations University's Executive Officer and will become Executive Director of United Nations University Centre for Policy Research on 1 July 2020.
Dr Passerelli advises the UNU Rector on management initiatives at UNU Headquarters and across the UNU system — specifically, the development of medium- and long-term strategies, corporate policy, and legal affairs, as well the establishment of new branches of the University and relations with existing and new host governments. He also serves as the Secretary of the governing board (the UNU Council) and is a member of the UNU’s Management Group.
David has worked with UNU since 2008. From 2013 to 2016, he served as Chief of Staff, during which time he also contributed to the research programme of UNU-GCM as an honorary associate research fellow.
David holds a doctorate degree in International Development from the University of Oxford, where his research focused on the rights of irregular migrant children.
Prior to joining UNU in 2008, David worked as a research assistant at the Global Institute for Asian Regional Integration at Waseda University, where he graduated with a master’s degree in international relations. David has published in the areas of migration, political theory, and comparative international higher education.
